Q&A #2: The Intellect Should Not Contradict the Established Texts

Can you give me the dalil from Ijabatus Sa’il 367-368, narrated by Shaykh Muqbil bin Hadi al-Wadi’i رحمه الله?

It says something like this : “If by logic alone is enough, then Allāh will not send the Apostles and pass down the book” Or mention me another dalil that similar like that if youre able إن شاء الله‎ Thank you! Jazak Allāh khayran.

A Refutation of Those Who Solely Rely on the Intellect

Question: “With what are those who oppose evidences with logical rhetoric to be refuted?”
Answer: Those who oppose evidences with logic are refuted with that which the Prophet ﷺ and his Companions were upon.
Then it should be known that they are only under the delusion that it is (their) logical reasoning that they are following, but in reality, it is wasāwas (whispers of the shayṭān) and not logic, because the sound intellect does not oppose an explicit text.
Thus, they are answered with what the Messenger was upon ﷺ. He (The Messenger) would be asked and Allāh would reveal (from) the Qurʾān. If the intellect were sufficient, Allāh would not have sent the Messengers, nor would He have sent down the Books; but the intellect always (needs) see through the light of the kitāb (Book) and the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ.

And some of the stubborn opinionated ones had come to the Prophet saying (as Allāh said): {He said Who will give life to these bones when they have rotted away and became dust?} [Yāsīn 36:78]

Did the Prophet ﷺ delve into philosophy or He said: Say: (O Muḥammad ﷺ) {He will give life to them Who created them for the first time! And He is the All-Knower of every creation!} [Yāsīn 36:79]
And thus were the verses of the Qurʾān revealed unto the Prophet in many of the affairs and in many of the occurrences.
The Lord of Honour and Glory in His Honourable Book said: {Is it not sufficient for them that We have sent down to you the Book (the Qurʾān) which is recited to them?} (al-ʿAnkabūt 29:51) The Book of Allāh is sufficient for us.

And Allāh -Exalted and Most High is He- said: {This day, I have perfected your religion for you, completed My Favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islām as your religion} (al-Māʿidah 5:3)

Also, al-Imām al-Bukhārī rahimahullāh included in the Book of Adherence, a chapter: “That which The Prophet ﷺ Was Upon – He Would Be Asked and Would Not Answer With Opinion Nor With Logic”

And he stated incidents, from them is the question of Jābir when he said: “O Messenger of Allāh, you see what has befallen me, and I have only sisters (and no offsprings to inherit me, what happens to my sisters regarding my wealth)?”
Then Allāh revealed: They ask you for a legal verdict. {Say: “Allāh directs (thus) about Al-Kalālah (those who leave neither descendants nor ascendants as heirs)…} (Al-Nisā’ 4:176).
Such was the situation and other than it. The Jews also came – al-Bukhārī mentioned this too – when they came to ask the Prophet about ar-Rūh (the Spirit).
He kept quiet and then Allāh revealed: {And they ask you (O Muḥammad ﷺ) concerning the Rūḥ (the Spirit); Say: “The Rūḥ (the Spirit): it is one of the things, the knowledge of which is only with my Lord. And of knowledge, you (mankind) have been given only a little} (al-Isrā’ 17:85) The Prophet ﷺ never used to answer with his opinion nor with logic.
Then (in the end) those who philosophize in and with the dīn of Allāh always regret there actions. Ar-Rāzī (who was one of the leading Philosophers in his time) says (in some lines of poetry from his famous poetry with which he refuted philosophy in the dīn, at the end of his life):
“The ultimate result of (delving into matters of the unseen with intellect) is iʿqāl (a rope used to tie a camel, i.e the intellect will be tied away from reaching the truth), and the end of our lives (Philosophers’) is suffering and and evil consequences
And our souls are desolated from our bodies, and the goal of those who struggled (in philosophy and rhetorics) is misguidance
And we did not benefit a thing all our lives, except that all we gathered were qīla qa qāla” (hearsay)…”
No one goes into this (philosophy/rhetoric) except a loser. And we do/should not deny the blessings of Allāh and the ʿaql (intellect). Allāh has favoured you with intellect however, do not use it to oppose the kitāb and Sunnah, rather use it to understand the kitāb and the Sunnah. And Allāh al-Musta’ān (it is Allāh alone from whom aid can be sought).
